The Biggest Loser, Pimp My Ride, Extreme Makeover, Trading Spaces, Nanny 911, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy…we all love a good make-over show. I find any kind of before-and-after transformation to be utterly irresistible.
Yesterday, at the gym where I do my strength-training, my trainer showed me the stack of charts that she’d filled in since I started, as well as a chart of how much stronger I’d become since my first day. I felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment. I couldn’t believe that I’d shown up that many times and come so far!
It occurs to me that a great motivator for cleaning closets, reorganizing the garage, etc., would be to take some “before” pictures so that you’d have a record of the improvements you’ve made “after.” Seeing the “after” would be exhilarating. Also, just the fact that you’re taking the “before” picture would be a promise to yourself to follow through – which would probably help you do so.
It’s easy to make a resolution, but not always easy to keep a resolution (here are some tips). The gratification of a before-and-after might be a big help.
Have you found any great strategies to push yourself through the “before” stage to the triumph of the “after”?
The days are long, but the years are short.
